eco preschools
has a Healing Garden and children grow plants with
proven medicinal properties. Children learn about herbal medicines, their ingredients
and application. Permission is sought before we apply any herbal remedy.
Parents look forward to our regular newsletter which contains
herbal remedies which can be useful for the entire family. Some examples include:
ANEMIA
Each day drink ¼ cup beet juice added to some fresh
carrot juice.
ANTISEPTICS
Carrots
Boil carrots, mash them, and apply to sores to extract pus
and heal the area. Carrots are a very strong antiseptic.
Garlic
Extracts of garlic buds contain allicin, a powerful antibacterial
agent. In Russia during WWII, in the absence of penicillin and other antibiotics,
garlic powder was used to treat wounds. For a tasty anti cold remedy, combine
finely cut beefsteak tomatoes, red onions, mashed garlic buds, vegetable oil
and lemon juice. Eat as much as you can stand!
Ginger
Wild ginger contains a broad spectrum antibiotic active against
bacteria and fungi. Ginger root or powder added to herbal drinks at the onset
of a cold causes perspiration and alleviates cold symptoms. Do not use in great
amounts. Use a small amount in bath water too.
BEDWETTING
Marjoram
Wild marjoram tea is said to help bedwetting problems as well
as nightmares.
St. John’s Wort
Also called hypericum: Prepare a tea with an ounce of flowers
to a pint of boiling water to try to overcome night time bedwetting. The herb
is also an exceptional first aid for wounds, bleeding and bruises. The flowers
give off red juice. The oil can be obtained by suspending a tightly closed glass
jar of the flowers in the sun.
