The Toddler Room is for all of our 2-3 year old children.
There is a maximum of 8 Toddlers per day so it is an intimate group where the children can really get to know their teachers and each other.
ecopreschools recognize that Toddlers are developing their sense of self. Toddlers know what they want but often their emergent language skills leave them frustrated and unable to express their needs and wants. This invariably leads to both emotional and physical outbursts.
For this reason, it is particularly important that staff embrace and apply advice given by parents about their child. It is also equally important that staff encourage verbal communication over physical. Staff emphasis is on developing a child’s sense of agency and an awareness within the child that they do have an impact on the world around them, and this can have both positive and negative results.
Physical Environment
The Toddler Room is spacious leading to a flexible indoor/ outdoor learning area with its own Vegetable Garden and Compost Bin. Toddlers also have access to the larger main outdoor play area and gardens. The centre kitchen is linked to the Toddler Room via a children’s viewing gallery where the children are able to observe their meals being prepared and be involved in cooking themselves. The Toddler Room has a Nappy Change Facility and is next to the Children’s Toilets which is specifically designed for the little bodies.
Arts, Craft and Music are a favorite in this room. Rhyme and Repetition are the best way to help children recall learned facts and information.
With many Toddlers moving up to the Preschool Room, staff facilitate a real sense of friendships and warmth between the children in these rooms by grouping them together at designated times.
